2013 was all about rail shots and 2014 is set to be all about drones. UAV or unmanned aerial vehicle or drones as they are more commonly known are able to capture footage previously only available from helicopters and even then nothing like some of the shots you see today. Basically they are remote controlled helicopters with a HD video camera attached.
Advancements in camera and wireless technology mean you now regularly see footage shot at sporting events, where they are able to stream live high definition images to the audience at the game or your television at home.
You also see more and more shots in the movies or on television drama and documentary using the professional versions similar to the system WestMedia uses that requires two operators. One person controls the helicopter and another controls the movement of the camera. The shots you can achieve are visually stunning and often are what blows our clients minds.
WestMedia sells the Phantom DJI through our Cinema EOS division, a small lightweight and relatively cheap system that uses a GoPro camera.
For a professional shoot we offer the full scale CineStar 8 Quadcopter
